The Dempsey, a new multi-family complex located off I-565 and along Lime Quarry Road, took this idea to heart when creating the concept behind its brand. Encompassing a mix of studios, one bedroom, two bedrooms, and eight live-work units, the complex will bring more luxury, leisure, and retail to the area. Its opening will take place in phases with Phase 1 scheduled for the end of 2022.
“Dempsey is a word with Irish origins that means ‘proud’,” said Stewart Rand, development associate at Novare Group. “We wanted the project to represent the pride people will have when living there. The Dempsey will be upscale, activated by on-site retail, have engaging amenities, and serve as a complement to the adjacent Madison Golf Center. It is down the road from Town Madison and Toyota Field, placing it in an area with a thriving community and endless entertainment.”
Phase 1 of opening will include the first building facing Lime Quarry Road that includes the retail spaces and live-work units. Novare Group, the project’s developers, expect to turn over the spaces to tenants for buildouts by the end of the year. Phase 2, which covers the rest of the development, is scheduled to be complete by April 2023.
Crunkleton Commercial Real Estate is serving as the leasing team for The Dempsey and plans to bring exciting concepts to the project. The site has two retail spaces that are roughly 2,500 square feet each. On the east side of the property, next to the golf center, the retail space could become a fun restaurant or tavern. To the west of the site, the retail space could house a coffee shop, yoga studio, or boutique. Both are available for lease. There are endless possibilities due to the growth of the area, surrounding retail, on-site customer base, high traffic counts, and excellent demographics.

“I-565 features some of the highest traffic counts in the City of Madison with more than 71,000 vehicles passing The Dempsey daily,” said Anusha Alapati Davis, vice president of retail at Crunkleton and leasing agent for the project. “The retail tenants at the site will have the benefit of being surrounded by numerous residential communities, major attractions like Toyota Field, and within a short drive of Huntsville International Airport and downtown Madison. It is right in the middle of all the action and growth.”
The Dempsey will have 290 apartment units total and eight live-work units that give users the ability to have a storefront—that could be retail or office—and live upstairs or behind their business, depending on the floor plan. These units sit along the front of the property on Lime Quarry Road and offer a unique convenience in the market. Businesses who lease the live-work units will have access to the property’s amenities including a fitness center, co-working spaces, and a dog wash/pet spa station. The Dempsey is pet friendly.
Overall design at The Dempsey will reflect its proximity to Singing River Trail by introducing natural elements and neutral tones to the interior. Reclaimed wood, exposed materials, finished metals, and layering of unique textures will create a bold statement of luxury, relaxation, and sophistication.
