Refreshing Italian ice, creamy soft ice cream, and the perfect layering of the two—the Jeremiah’s Gelati—will soon be available at the newly renovated Hughes Plaza in Madison, all thanks to a concept that’s growing quickly throughout the Southeast. Jeremiah’s Italian Ice, a frozen treat shop that’s been satisfying sweet tooths since 1996 in its home state of Florida, plans to open its first North Alabama location later this year in a 2,048 square foot space between Just Love Coffee and Absolute Nutrition. Owners Todd and Alexis Bentley anticipate the opening to be in late summer or early fall 2022.

“Jeremiah’s began near Orlando where I grew up,” said Alexis. “Since I was a child, I looked forward to visiting the shop with my family and getting my favorite Gelati and soft ice cream. When I heard the concept’s creator was making franchise options available, I jumped on it. I quickly got Todd on board, and now he’s as much of a fan as I am. We are excited to share what we think are the best frozen treats with Madison and the surrounding areas.”

Guests can experience 40 rotating flavors of Italian ice that range from classic Chocolate or Cherry to more decadent selections like Horchata and Sea Salted Caramel to eclectic seasonal flavors like Mango Margarita and Spicy Hot Chocolate. Jeremiah’s also offers sugar-free options in classic flavors like Cherry, Sour Green Apple, and Tangerine. When their refreshing Italian ice is layered with their rich and creamy soft ice cream, the result is a unique treat called the Gelati. The combination possibilities are endless, and visitors can sample each flavor before purchasing—a policy of the Jeremiah’s brand.

“One thing we love about Jeremiah’s is its focus on community,” said Todd. “We wanted to make sure we incorporated something into our location that showcased the brand’s focus on family, schools, and community outreach. That’s why our shop will be the first location in the franchise to have a designated children’s area. Our location is excellent because it is near so many schools that we can support and serve.”

Jeremiah’s upcoming shop will be in Suite 9 at the recently renovated Hughes Plaza. The development received a major makeover in 2020, transforming the site into a neighborhood hub for retail, fitness, and dining. New tenants at the site include Fleet Feet, Just Love Coffee, Bicycle Cove, Up A Creek, Results Physiotherapy, Hex Gym, Absolute Nutrition, Blue Dolphin Pools, and Poke Collect. Todd and Alexis say they chose Hughes Plaza as Jeremiah’s new home for several reasons.

“We selected our Madison site because it was right on the main strip, has excellent co-tenants, is a great hang-out for families, near schools, Palmer Park, apartments, and downtown,” said Todd. “Hughes Plaza has become a frequented spot for the community. We want to be a part of a thriving center.”

Todd also shared that he and Alexis signed a two-store agreement with Jeremiah’s. They plan to open a second shop with a Huntsville address—details coming soon. As for Jeremiah’s in Madison, guests will enjoy an open and friendly vibe with indoor and outdoor seating. Kids will have chairs and tables made for their size—a perfect stop for an after-school treat. Plus, catering will be available with the option of pre-packaged treats or full-service scooping at events.

Crunkleton Commercial Real Estate’s Vice President of Retail, Anusha Alapati Davis, worked with the Bentleys to select their Hughes Plaza shop. She believes they will be a fun addition to the site and a great place for families to make memories.

“Jeremiah’s Italian Ice is a fast-growing franchise, and we are thrilled to have the first North Alabama location opening in Madison,” said Anusha. “The city’s many families will find it to be a welcoming environment for all ages, and the product is delicious. Todd and Alexis were great to work with and will be wonderful operators for the shop. We are thrilled to have them at Hughes Plaza.”

There are still a few spaces left at Hughes Plaza for lease. Contact Anusha at anusha@crunkletonassociates.com for more information.
