“Ivy & Oak Home & Gifts” To Join Central Park Village Shopping Center!

A new home décor and gift registry shop is set to open at the Central Park Village shopping center on Bob Wallace Avenue later this year. Ivy & Oak, a creation of sisters-in-law Cate Burris and Kayla Burris, will feature an array of beautiful décor, wedding gifts, baby items, candles, bath and beauty products, drinkware, stationery, and even gourmet spices, mixes, and snacks. The 1,420 square foot shop will be in Suite 115 at the center and is set to open in late Summer 2022.

Before they became family, Cate and Kayla had both dreamed of owning their own business. Cate mused that she had wanted to open a shop like Ivy & Oak since middle school.

“Our husbands are brothers, and luckily they chose some great wives,” Cate joked. “We became fast friends and realized we had a lot in common. But it was our differences that made us great business partners. I understood parts of owning a business that Kayla didn’t. Her expertise in accounting was something I lacked.” The two began planning for Ivy & Oak while waiting in an unusually long line at a restaurant. What began as an amusing conversation quickly turned into a real possibility. Could they really open their own home décor and gift shop?

The next month, they applied for an LLC and started the process of making Ivy & Oak a reality. Cate, a business major, already had experience thanks to her ownership of a home décor booth in Franklin. Kayla’s accounting degree would help them handle the logistics of the business.

“I was the one who found our new space at Central Park Village,” said Kayla. “It was our second day of driving the market, and I immediately called when I saw the space was available.”

The Ivy & Oak duo wanted to be in a high-traffic, growing area that was easy to travel to from all areas of the city. Being near Whole Foods, Ulta, Barre3, Char, Lululemon, and other popular brands was their ideal scenario. The concept quickly came together when they walked inside their future space. They said the shop’s look will be “modern and industrial” with a “city vibe” that includes concrete floors covered in Persian rugs, wood registers with cork countertops, and cozy loveseats.

“Our style is something we believe sets Ivy & Oak apart,” said Cate. “We pay attention to what’s trending and are always looking for brands and vendors that are up-and-coming. I’ve been known to flag people down on the street if I see them wearing jewelry that I like. I’ll ask them where they got it and I do my research to get something similar in our store.”

“We test every item before it makes it to our shelves,” explained Kayla. “Everything you see in our shop is something we would personally spend money on. When we go to market, we make sure that the curated products we select are of the highest quality.”

Ivy & Oak will carry home décor items such as bowls, vases, mirrors, frames, tea towels, candle holders, and more. There will also be a robust kitchen section with pots, pans, colanders, measuring spoons, and gourmet food mixes, soups, and snacks. Gifts range from bath products to greeting cards and jewelry. Finally, the shop will have a sizeable collection for wedding and baby registries.

“Most of our baby items are made from bamboo, which means they are great for skin sensitivities or eczema,” said Cate. “We will carry blankets, toys, burp cloths, clothing, sippy cups, and bibs. Our wedding registry gifts will include tablescapes, china, plates, linens—the whole shebang. We will have something for everyone.”

Ivy & Oak will offer complimentary gift wrapping as well to make sure each gift is received in the most beautiful way possible.

“We are very thankful that Ivy & Oak is opening soon,” said Kayla. “This is something we have been working on for a long time and we can’t wait to share it with Huntsville.
