(Popular Birmingham-based eatery to open location in downtown Huntsville.)
Crunkleton Commercial Real Estate is thrilled to announce that Melt, a Birmingham-based restaurant specializing in classic comfort food with a modern twist, will be opening a location at The Avenue on Jefferson Street. Situated in the heart of downtown Huntsville, Melt will serve its signature menu in the 3,628-square-foot space along with a full bar offering cocktails, Huntsville beers, wine and liquor. The restaurant is tentatively scheduled to open late March 2019.
Founded and co-owned by Paget Pizitz and Harriet Despinakis, Melt began as a food truck in 2012 that quickly gained a large, dedicated following. After years of success, the duo opened the first brick-and-mortar Melt in the Avondale neighborhood of Birmingham in 2014.
“At the time, Avondale was in the early stages of being an up-and-coming neighborhood,” said Pizitz. “We moved into an under-developed area with several condemned buildings so it was a leap of faith when we decided to redevelop a former gas station into a restaurant. Now Avondale has grown into a beautiful, vibrant community that attracts all walks of life. We do our best to give back to the people who have supported us along the way. Much of that involves investing in local communities, something Harriet and I are very passionate about.”
Melt offers an extensive menu that features everything from unique appetizers to sandwiches, salads and other healthy fare. With the goal of being an inclusive culinary destination, Melt has selections for everyone in the family including gluten-free and vegan options. According to Despinakis, downtown Huntsville has a vibe that they believe supports the concept.
“When we explored the downtown Huntsville area, we immediately noticed that it appealed to young professionals, families and many different lifestyle groups,” said Despinakis. “Melt is all-encompassing—a place that’s perfect for families, date nights, business lunch meetings, solo dining and more. The Avenue location will have its own distinctive atmosphere because it’s part of a larger development, which is something we’ve yet to experience. However, there will be no question that it’s Melt when you walk inside and enjoy your meal. We welcome guests who have already visited us in Avondale and can’t wait to introduce ourselves to new friends in Huntsville.”
Along with Melt’s Executive Chef, Joey Dickerson, Pizitz and Despinakis have focused on staying ahead of culinary trends by reinventing menu items and making highly requested ingredients available. One of the most popular plates is the “Ole Smokey”, a smoked turkey, bacon, lettuce, cheddar cheese and smokey mayo sandwich on local sourdough. Guests can also order one-of-a-kind appetizers, flavorful salads, cheeseburgers and other classic sandwiches like a Cuban, Reuben and Chicken Parmesan prepared with Melt’s signature twist.
In addition to Melt, Pizitz and Despinakis co-own Fancy’s on 5th, an Avondale-based Oyster Dive and Burger Bar. Pizitz also owns a speakeasy that opened in Avondale in 2016, The Marble Ring.
“Melt’s reputation and proven record of success make it an exciting addition to the downtown community,” said Wesley Crunkleton, principal at Crunkleton Commercial Real Estate Group. “From food truck to stand-alone restaurant to the Huntsville location, Melt has continued to reinvent itself. Harriet and Paget have worked hard to create a rock-solid concept that we are eager to welcome to Huntsville.”
