As a teenager Kayla Adams remembers making the long fashion pilgrimage from her small hometown of Anniston, Alabama to Atlanta each season. Captivated by the glamour and elegance of old Hollywood, she and her friends would spend the long trip coveting after Audrey Hepburn’s wardrobe from movies like Breakfast At Tiffany’s, Sabrina and Paris When It Sizzles, determined to channel the spirit of Holly Golightly with every piece they purchased that day.
And in the midst of those long drives and of talk about finding the perfect little black dress Kayla made up her mind that one day, she was going to open a store herself.
“I didn’t know where or when, it’s just always been my dream,” Kayla tells me as we sit down to chat.
“Just the idea of being able to dress women and help them feel confident and good about themselves, is something I’ve always had a passion for,” she went on to explain.
Now, after years of searching for the perfect space, Kayla is finally bringing that dream to life with her new store, Elitaire Boutique, in the Garage At Clinton Row in Downtown Huntsville.
“Fashion has always been a form of art to me,” she explained, excitement bubbling in her voice. “It not only shows movement, design and architecture, it also shows the world who you are and who you want to be. They may say to dress for the job you want, but you should also dress for the life you want to live.”
A full lifestyle boutique, Kayla explains that Elitaire will focus on clean, classic, sophisticated and timeless fashion for women. “I want this to be a place, that regardless of a woman’s size or shape, she can come in and shop without having to compromise her style. I want to have clothes that let women feel like they can conquer the world.”
As for the look of the store, “I want something you would see in a big city,” says Kayla. “Since the store is located downtown I want it to have a downtown feel, very urban, but also very chic and sophisticated with clean lines and big chandeliers.”
More than anything though, Kayla says she wants her clients to “leave feeling confident about what they’re wearing and the clothes they bought, knowing that they are timeless pieces that will grow with them over a lifetime and not something that’s going to go out of style in a few months.”
With a background as a fashion journalist for Women’s Wear Daily, Kayla is excited to have the opportunity to share her passion for fashion not only through the store itself, but also combine it with her passion for writing through an online lifestyle blog that will be attached to the store. “I’m excited to use the city of Huntsville in those and run stories and articles that people here can relate to,” Kayla explained.
Kayla plans to open Elitaire Boutique downtown in early to mid fall of this year.
