After working as a cast member at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, graduating college, and teaching English in Japan, Tabetha Holyfield moved back to Alabama to make a home in the Rocket City.
She recently joined Crunkleton Commercial Real Estate where she serves as the Office Manager. Tabetha is the first face clients see when they walk in our doors, and she makes it a comfortable and welcoming environment. Her tasks keep the office running and range from assisting the brokers with research and scheduling to streamlining day-to-day operations.
We sat down with Tabetha today to learn more about her past experiences, what she enjoys about commercial real estate, and what her goals are for the future.
What was your education like?
I graduated from the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) with a degree in English Language & Literature. Initially, I wanted to teach English as a second language overseas—travel and explore. I wanted to invest in the lives of children in other countries because I believe language is important and it connects us. Communication is one of my favorite parts of any job, and I am thankful to have been in positions that allow me to hone my skills.
I recently moved back to America and have been looking for a great career fit. I love work that focuses on supporting others. Helping my coworkers succeed in their business endeavors is very rewarding, which is why I think the Office Manager role is ideal for my personality type and strengths—organization, communication, support, and problem-solving.
What does a typical day look like for you?
Well, that’s the great thing! No two days are alike. I work very closely with all departments at Crunkleton and each one brings a different type of focus to the table. My main role is being the liaison between the Crunkleton team and our clients/vendors. However, a day can consist of assisting the property managers with taking care of tenants, completing research for brokers, helping with administrative tasks, collaboration, organizing invoices—the list goes on. I get to have a hand in every department here, which is a challenge I enjoy.
What qualities do you think are important to have as an Office Manager?
Flexibility and communication. Every day is very different, so you must be flexible with what comes at you. Some tasks take 5 minutes, and some take a week. Knowing how to be flexible with your time and attention is crucial. Every task I’m given needs to be completed according to priority, and those priorities change daily. Communication is equally important. I am supporting several people at once and they need to know where I stand in completing various tasks. Keeping those lines open ensures that all work is completed accurately and on time.
What are some of your career goals?
When I was looking for a permanent position, one of the things I focused on was finding a work environment where there were growth opportunities. There are many avenues here for advancing your career and growing as a person. Now, I am very happy with where I am at. I think this position fits me well, but knowing that there are opportunities to learn about becoming a broker or property manager is a great incentive. I’m still learning about the industry and discovering my strengths.
Within this position, I want to continue learning about commercial real estate so I can better serve our clients. Learning the best way to problem solve within the office and enhancing our overall productivity is a goal of mine at Crunkleton.
It’s exciting to be a part of so many major projects going on in Huntsville. This job helps me put depth and definition to my love of the city that was already there.
What do you enjoy doing outside the office?
Three days a week, I leave Crunkleton at 5 p.m. and head over to Rhythms of Grace Dance Academy where I also serve as the Office Manager. When I am not there, I am spending time with my family, catching up on TV, reading comics, going to church, and trying new foods.
