What do you look for when purchasing new clothes, toys, and gear for your child? According to Little Cotton Shoppe on Airport Road, it’s all about sticking to items that are comfortable, durable, original, and stylish. That’s why its owner, Lauren Fitzgerald, has packed her “shoppe for littles” with fun and cozy clothing that is sure to please parents and kids alike.
“Shopping should be an enjoyable experience for everyone involved,” said Lauren. “Children’s clothing can be a difficult purchase if your child is sensitive to fabrics or prefers softer outfits. Everything at Little Cotton Shoppe is soft and easy to wear, sparking creativity and joy. Parents don’t have to think twice.”
Open since November 2019, the children’s shop is located at the busy Piedmont Station development (964 Airport Road) where Huntsville favorites like Rollin’ Lobstah, Sweet Pineapple, Valley Sole, Luciano, Vision Master, and others can be found. Its most recent tenant to join the mix, Lean Kitchen, celebrated its grand opening on Friday, February 21st.

“Why waste time? Just do it!”
“I’ve always dreamed about owning my own store,” shared Lauren. “I decided to go with a children’s concept because I have two boys of my own and I believed the area could use more options. It was just a dream for a while. One day, I saw a quote that motivated me to take action and make it a reality. It read, ‘Why waste time? Just do it.’ That is exactly what I did.”
Little Cotton Shoppe has a lot to choose from including clothing, books, wooden toys, dolls, games, luggage, and even balance bikes. It’s all tailored for children who are newborns to 8 years old.
“One of our most popular brands, Kyte Baby, creates unbelievably soft products that are perfect for babies with eczema-prone or sensitive skin,” said Lauren. “We also have great luggage for children and items that can endure multiple wears and washes while maintaining quality. Our selection is heartfelt and thoughtfully curated by our team, too. We try to stock items that can’t be found anywhere else or online, so you’ll always find something new when you visit.”
It’s clear that Lauren truly loves her job. By combining her history in retail with a love of making children smile, she’s developed a beautiful shop that offers a friendly and personalized shopping experience.
“I love the hunt of finding new and wonderful inventory for Huntsville,” smiled Lauren. “It’s also rewarding to show my children the value of hard work.”
A shoppe for littles…
When it came to choosing a location for Little Cotton Shoppe, Lauren reached out to Crunkleton Commercial Real Estate before making her decision.
“Zac Buckley helped me find the perfect spot to reach my customers,” said Lauren. “It has been a wonderful experience. The landlord and other tenants have been warm and welcoming from the beginning. We are all here for each other and support each other’s shops. I knew Julie from Valley Sole beforehand and she was very enthusiastic about my store once she learned I was looking for a permanent home. There’s a lot of traffic here and it’s easily accessible from all areas of the city. I’m happy with my decision.”

Inside Little Cotton Shoppe, there’s a symphony of pastels and bright hues lining the walls. Lauren describes the atmosphere as “warm and eclectic”—two words she hoped to embody with the vibe of her store.
“The name for the shop came up organically,” explained Lauren. “I wanted to emphasize that it was a shoppe for littles where they can find the utmost comfort. Almost everything we sell is made of 100-percent cotton or an equally soft material.”
So, what makes Lauren’s store stand out? She says it’s the quality and originality of the products and personalized attention.
“Helping someone find the perfect item is what I live for,” said Lauren. “Shoppers here get a lot of hands-on experience and knowledge about the products before they buy. I want them to know everything about a purchase beforehand so they can ensure it’s what they need.”
